Plexiglass partitions in a restaurant

Many of the places where you shop these days have installed plexiglass partitions. It’s a helpful, increasingly popular option that’s used to protect employees and the general public. To keep up appearances, it’s best to keep the plexiglass as clean and as scratch-free as possible. Finding the right plexiglass cleaner is extremely important because many products will cause abrasions and scratches, something plexiglass is especially susceptible to. It’s also necessary to use the proper method to clean the plexiglass, and to use the correct tools, too. Let Polymershapes give you a hand!

Blow Off the Dust

Before cleaning your plexiglass partitions, the first thing you want to do is to ensure that all the dust particles are removed. You can use a blow dryer on a low, cool setting to get rid of dust and other particles. Never use hot air on plexiglass! When using a hairdryer, make sure to hold it at a 45-degree angle several inches away from the surface, blowing it from side to side and from top to bottom. This will prepare you for the next step.

Choose the Right Cleaner

The next step is choosing the correct plexiglass cleaner to get the job done right. You need to use an acrylic-safe cleaner. Stay away from abrasive cleaners like Windex, which can be harmful to plastic. You can probably find several anti-abrasive cleaners at a local shop or you can order something more specific online. You can also use mild dish soap and water as a DIY alternative.

Pick the Right Cloth

Picking the right cloth to clean plexiglass partitions is extremely important in maintaining a scratch-free surface. Using a clean microfiber cloth will keep your plexiglass looking new for years to come. An anti-example would be paper towels; these could leave scratches on the plexiglass, so they should never be used for cleaning or drying!

The Correct Cleaning Method

It’s essential to use the correct cleaning method for plexiglass partitions. First, apply the plexiglass cleaner or warm water and soap onto the partition, covering a two-foot square at a time. Next, wipe down the surface with a clean microfiber cloth until the plexiglass is clear and streak-free. Continue this process until the entire piece has been sprayed and dried.

The Extra Step

If you’re feeling ambitious, you can follow the cleaning with wetting the microfiber cloth and going over the plexiglass partition again. Another option is to spray it down with water, then wipe down the partition with a second microfiber cloth. This step isn’t required, but it will make the plexiglass exceptionally clear and shiny!

As long as you follow these steps of caring for plexiglass partitions, you should be able to keep your plexiglass scratch-free and spotless for years to come. Keep in mind, Polymershapes can help with plexiglass fabrication for whatever your needs may be.
